- CRCSI's vision is to be a world leader in spatial information applications that are affordable, usable and readily available any time, any place.
- CRCSI conduct R&D and education projects for the spatial information industry. They collaborate with companies, government departments and universities.
- The spatial information industry is part of the broader information technology sector and has links to many other disciplines; environmental science, engineering, computer science, health delivery, logistics, planning, resource management and electronics. From ambulance dispatch services, bushfire management to commercial asset mapping, CRCSI’s education services need to reach these sectors in a format that meets each sector’s requirements.
- Traditionally, CRCSI educated students face-to-face; using short courses and university lectures.
- CRCSI conducted a national survey of their professional community and found a vast number of respondents wanted elearning instead. CRCSI decided elearning was an effective way of delivering its learning content.
- With the help of Ecampus, CRCSI deployed an LMS. In one week it was online. After a month, a range of elearning courses had been created and were being taken online by students.
- The introduction of a Continuing Professional Development module enabled CRCSI to deliver CPD training and track CPD points obtained by students.
- A credit card gateway was also introduced to enable students to instantly purchase courses.
- With the help of the Ecampus LMS, CRCSI now provide an international education service to scientists, engineers, managers and others about spatial information.
- CRCSI now carries out management, editing and course creation using a common platform.
- The material is delivered with ease throughout Australia and the world; half CRCSI's users are in the USA.
